I've been getting a lot of questions about the Canada Post strike from confused sellers and buyers this week. At first we were preparing for a full national strike and had assumed no mail was going to go out or come in. Thankfully that didn't happen, but many people are still under the impression that it did.
Right now it's a rotating strike taking place in one or two cities at a time for 24 hours and then moving on to the next location. There really hasn't been much difference in the quality of Canada Post delivery that I have seen. My awesome mailman hand delivered my parcels the day after the Winnipeg strike action the same as the week before.
As such, I've decided to operate my business as if there is no strike going on. It is safe to buy from Canadian sellers and safe for Canadian sellers to run their shops. For those of us close to the border who sell a majority of our items to the US, our packages are (thankfully) out of the Canada Post system and into the USPS system within 48 hours anyway. No need to panic, yet. However things could change and I'm keeping an eye on the situation. If anything changes I will let you know as soon as possible.
For now, I'd like to offer free shipping to all my North American buyers for the duration of the rotating strike! Just to say thank you for your patience and also because I couldn't resist the irony.
Thanks to my fellow Canadian sellers on twitter for the updates! You guys are like my own little union, repping the home based independent online seller. We're important too!
